Roshan Exclusive Interview About Champion, Emotional Depth, and Action Sequences

How did it feel when Ram Charan praised you at the trailer launch?
Roshan: "It felt incredible. I’ve known Charan anna since childhood, and his words of appreciation really made me happy. His support means a lot to me."

Many have compared Champion to Magadheera. Do you think the two films are similar?
Roshan: "While the films might share a grand action drama element, Champion is a unique story set in 1948, centered around war and emotional conflict. We created a fictional character, Michael, set against the real backdrop of Byranpalli, making it distinct."

What kind of preparation did you undergo for your role?
Roshan: "Since my character is from Hyderabad, I focused on perfecting the Hyderabadi accent through workshops. It was important to connect with the character’s roots. I also trained physically for the role, especially for the intense action sequences."

Why did the film take three years to complete?
Roshan: "I entered the industry early at 21. But I needed maturity to evolve as both an artist and a person. These three years helped me gain clarity and personal growth, which reflect in my performance."

Can you tell us about the action sequences in Champion?
Roshan: "The action sequences, designed by Peter Hein, are extraordinary. They were physically demanding, and I did suffer injuries along the way, but it’s all part of making an intense action film. The final product is worth it."

Were there any historical references in the film?
Roshan: "Yes, the story is set after India’s independence, during the time when Hyderabad was not yet free. We made sure to research every detail, from costumes to locations, to stay true to that period."

How was working with Kovai Sarala?
Roshan: "Kovai Sarala has excellent timing and energy. Working with her and the other senior actors was a wonderful experience, and it added depth to my performance."

Did you feel pressure due to the film’s large scale?
Roshan: "The scale of the film is massive, but pressure is part of the process. I focused on giving my best performance. Every character, including the ones from Byranpalli, plays a significant role in the story."

What is your opinion on Anaswara Rajan’s performance in Champion?
Roshan: "Anaswara has done a fantastic job. With over 25 Malayalam films under her belt, her character is not only meaningful but also adds a lot of fun and depth to the film."

What can we expect from the music in Champion?
Roshan: "The music, composed by Mickey J Meyer, is refreshing. Especially the background score, which is powerful and enhances the action sequences. It has a great emotional undertone."

Is there a special significance to the vintage car seen in the visuals?
Roshan: "Every object in the film, including the vintage car, has significance. The car itself becomes an integral part of the story."

How does football factor into your character?
Roshan: "Football plays a motivating role for my character. I used to play football in school, so it felt natural to incorporate that into the film."

What kind of roles are you looking to explore next?
Roshan: "I want to do films that feel different and offer something unique to the audience. They’re looking for fresh experiences, and so am I."

How was working with Kalyan Chakravarthy on Champion?
Roshan: "Kalyan’s role is inspired by a real-life character. Working with him was inspiring, and his performance added an incredible layer to the film."

How has Champion changed you as an actor?
Roshan: "Champion has taught me patience and maturity. I feel like audiences will see a new version of me on screen."

What is your relationship with your industry circle, like Akhil and Thaman?
Roshan: "Akhil and Thaman are great friends. We often play cricket together and share a lot of fun moments."

Do you take advice from your father on scripts?
Roshan: "He listens to my thoughts, but ultimately, the final decision is mine. I appreciate his support, but I trust my instincts."

How has director Pradeep Advaitham contributed to the film?
Roshan: "Pradeep connects naturally with the emotions of the story. His direction, along with his casting choices and execution, have been perfect."

What is your take on Swapna Cinema’s support for Champion?
Roshan: "Swapna Cinema has been like family. Their trust and vision have been vital in making this film come to life."

Did you receive any guidance from Nag Ashwin?
Roshan: "Nag Ashwin encouraged me to open up more and be expressive, which I believe has really helped me as an actor."

Was becoming an actor always your goal?
Roshan: "Initially, I wanted to be a cricketer, but films gradually pulled me in. Acting has always been my true passion."

How long did it take to shoot Champion?
Roshan: "It took around 100 days, including extensive action schedules."

How’s your relationship with co-star Sreeleela now that she’s become a star?
Roshan: "Sreeleela is a good friend, and I’m thrilled to see her success. We stay in touch, and I’m very happy for her."

What should the audience expect from Champion?
Roshan: "They can expect grand action, deep human emotions, a compelling village drama, and a strong emotional connection. It’s a complete cinematic experience."

What’s next for you?
Roshan: "I have some exciting projects coming up, and I’m planning to keep releasing films with less gap between them."

All the best for your upcoming projects!
Roshan: "Thank you! I appreciate all the support from my fans and am excited for everyone to see Champion."
