The PM Modi NEET paper leak response took centre stage at an NDA Parliamentary Party meeting in New Delhi on Tuesday, July 21, 2026. Prime Minister Narendra Modi reportedly defended the government’s handling of the examination controversy while stressing that the trust of students and young people must be restored.
The remarks came a day after thousands of protesters marched towards Parliament demanding accountability over the NEET paper leak and action against Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The demonstration, led by the Cockroach Janata Party, or CJP, resulted in clashes between protesters and the Delhi Police, leaving many demonstrators and police personnel injured.
Strict Punishment Sought for NEET Leak Accused
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said the Prime Minister wanted those involved in the paper leak racket to receive the strictest possible punishment.
According to Rijiju, the government acted immediately after information about the leak emerged. He said 13 people connected with the case were arrested and sent to jail. The Prime Minister also reportedly supported the use of experienced lawyers to ensure that those found guilty face exemplary legal action.
Modi told NDA leaders that strong punishment was necessary not only to deliver justice in the present case but also to discourage similar examination-related offences in the future.
The Prime Minister reportedly called for the creation of a “foolproof system” to prevent future question paper leaks. He said protecting the future of students should remain the main priority of both the Central and state governments.
Re-Examination Given Priority
Rijiju said the government had prioritised conducting the NEET re-examination so that students would not face further academic uncertainty.
According to the government’s account, the re-examination was conducted and the results were announced without unnecessary delay. The government presented these steps as evidence that it had attempted to protect students while pursuing criminal action against those allegedly responsible for the leak.
Modi reportedly said that students should not suffer because of the actions of organised groups or individuals involved in examination malpractice.
NDA MPs Asked to Reach Out to Students
One of the key proposals discussed during the meeting was a nationwide student outreach programme led by Members of Parliament.
Modi asked NDA MPs to communicate directly with students, understand their concerns, and explain the measures being taken to strengthen the examination system. He reportedly acknowledged that the government must win back the confidence of young people affected by the controversy.
The Prime Minister also cautioned political parties against treating the issue only as a Centre-versus-state or government-versus-Opposition dispute. He described examination security as a national concern connected directly to the future of India’s youth.
Delhi Protests Increase Political Pressure
The NDA meeting followed a major protest in central Delhi during the opening of Parliament’s Monsoon Session.
CJP supporters, students, and other demonstrators attempted to march towards Parliament while demanding stronger accountability over repeated examination failures. Police used barricades, batons, and tear gas after the situation turned violent.
The protest has intensified political pressure on the government, with opposition parties and student groups demanding wider reforms in the examination system and action against officials responsible for security failures.
While the government has highlighted the arrests, re-examination, and proposed preventive measures, protesters continue to seek political accountability and greater transparency.

However, rebuilding confidence among millions of competitive-examination candidates may depend on whether the promised security measures prevent further leaks.
