Jag Vasant LPG Vessel Reaches Gujarat Port Days After Hormuz Passage

The LPG tanker Jag Vasant, carrying 47,600 metric tonnes of LPG, arrived at Gujarat's Vadinar port on Thursday after being stranded in the Strait of Hormuz for 23 days due to escalating tensions in the Middle East. The vessel’s delayed arrival brings much-needed relief amid concerns about potential LPG shortages in India. The ongoing geopolitical instability in the region has disrupted shipping routes, leaving several tankers stranded.

This delivery, along with a second LPG tanker, Pine Gas, which is scheduled to reach New Mangalore Port soon, will significantly boost India’s LPG reserves. The combined stock of over 92,000 metric tonnes will be enough to meet approximately one day’s cooking gas demand in the country. The crew aboard both vessels, numbering 120, are all safe.

India relies heavily on the Strait of Hormuz for its LPG imports, with 90% of these imports passing through the critical waterway. Despite the delays caused by the ongoing conflict, the Ministry of Petroleum assured the public that LPG supply remains stable, with sufficient stock to meet domestic demand. The government continues to address concerns, emphasizing the adequacy of oil and LPG supplies and dismissing rumors of shortages as misinformation.
