CJP Says Government Reached Out as Leaders Head to Meet Nadda

CJP spokespersons Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka said they were heading to meet Union Minister JP Nadda after the government reportedly reached out for talks. The development coincided with Abhijeet Dipke ending his hunger strike.

Two CJP representatives were heading to meet Union Minister JP Nadda on Monday, July 20, 2026, after the organisation claimed that the government had approached it for talks over the ongoing education accountability protest.

CJP chief spokesperson Saurav Das said he and fellow spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka were proceeding with the proposed discussion. The announcement marked a possible opening for dialogue after weeks of demonstrations and hunger strikes linked to alleged examination irregularities and paper leaks.

CJP Claims Government Initiated Contact

According to Das, the government contacted the organisation on Monday morning and expressed willingness to hold discussions. He said the CJP’s demands remained clear and referred to the large number of young people who had gathered in Delhi.

Earlier, Ranka had said that police officials had communicated the government’s willingness to speak with the protesters, although the organisation was initially waiting for further clarity about when and where formal discussions would take place.

The proposed meeting with JP Nadda was therefore viewed as the first significant indication that direct communication between the government and CJP representatives could begin.

Abhijeet Dipke Ends Hunger Strike

CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke ended his hunger strike at Jantar Mantar shortly before the planned march towards Parliament. Dipke had begun fasting on Saturday, July 18, following activist Sonam Wangchuk’s removal from the protest site and admission to Safdarjung Hospital.

Reports said Dipke ended the fast after receiving a request from Wangchuk. The decision came as CJP leaders prepared for the proposed talks and thousands of supporters gathered in central Delhi.

Sonam Wangchuk Requests Hospital Discharge

Wangchuk separately wrote to the hospital authorities asking to be allowed to leave and join the protest. He reportedly said that he felt stable and wanted to participate in the demonstration.

Safdarjung Hospital said Wangchuk’s vital parameters were stable but added that his blood parameters continued to require close clinical observation. The hospital said continued monitoring was necessary to identify and manage possible complications at an early stage.

His wife, Gitanjali Angmo, challenged the circumstances surrounding his continued hospitalisation and pursued legal relief before the Delhi High Court. She also appealed to supporters to ensure that the Parliament march remained peaceful and focused on education-related demands.

Student Activists Conclude Prolonged Fast

Three student activists associated with the All India Students’ Association also ended a hunger strike that had continued for 23 days. The decision followed an appeal by a delegation of public figures, political representatives, and social activists.

The delegation assured the students that their demands would be raised during the Monsoon Session of Parliament and pursued through political and public campaigns.

The conclusion of the hunger strikes did not mean the broader movement had ended. Instead, protest organisers indicated that their campaign would shift towards parliamentary intervention, negotiations, and continued public pressure.

Dialogue Opens Amid Parliament Protest

The proposed meeting with JP Nadda took place against the backdrop of the CJP’s “Chalo Sansad” mobilisation, which called for action over alleged NEET irregularities and other examination-related concerns.

While protesters faced barricades and police restrictions near Parliament, the government’s reported outreach created a parallel political development. Whether the discussions produce an agreement will depend on the government’s response to the organisation’s demands and the next steps announced by CJP representatives.
