Exclusive Interview: Anil Ravipudi Talks Chiranjeevi, Venkatesh, and Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu

You mentioned feeling more relaxed this time compared to last year. Why is that?
Anil Ravipudi: "This time, I’m definitely more relaxed. Chiranjeevi garu’s positive energy, especially at the pre-release event and during the Hook Step song performance, gave me the confidence I needed. His vibe made me feel calm and assured."

How did the Hook Step song come about, especially given its viral success?
Anil Ravipudi: "We initially planned a melody for Chiranjeevi’s introduction, but rain halted the shoot. Chiranjeevi sir felt it was nature’s signal, which made us rethink. From there, the Hook Step song was born, and it became a magical moment, fueling the excitement."

What was it like working with composer Bheems and the choreographers?
Anil Ravipudi: "Bheems delivered a fresh tune that really elevated the film. Aata Sandeep, who was eager to choreograph for Chiranjeevi, brought a fantastic performance. Ramajogayya Sastry’s contribution of the words ‘hook step’ was key. It’s wonderful to see local talent getting the recognition they deserve."

Why do you prefer working with local technicians?
Anil Ravipudi: "Bheems encourages local talent, and it’s something I truly believe in. Our singers, choreographers, and technicians all did a brilliant job. It makes me proud to see them gain visibility and recognition."

Does having a strong Sankranthi release record add pressure to you?
Anil Ravipudi: "Pressure is something I try to avoid. If the content is strong, the film will succeed. My stories, based on human relationships, naturally resonate with families, which is why they work well."

What emotional elements will the audience experience in Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu?
Anil Ravipudi: "The film has a very strong emotional core. The scenes between Chiranjeevi garu, Nayanthara, and the children are heartwarming. The portrayal of a husband and wife’s emotions is done in a new, relatable way that will connect with the audience."

How did you come up with the story and characterizations for Chiranjeevi and Venkatesh?
Anil Ravipudi: "I usually get attached to my first idea. Both Chiranjeevi garu and Venkatesh garu loved the concept. The story flows naturally with the characters, making it a refreshing experience for both the actors and the audience."

What stands out about Chiranjeevi’s performance in the film?
Anil Ravipudi: "Chiranjeevi garu’s emotional scenes will take the audience on a nostalgic journey. His performance will leave everyone in awe, and I’m sure fans will appreciate his depth."

How did Nayanthara’s involvement in the film come about?
Anil Ravipudi: "I’ve always maintained an honest, open relationship with my team. When Nayanthara came on board, she truly believed in the project and was completely committed. Her support helped bring the film to life."

How did you approach Chiranjeevi’s image while creating his character?
Anil Ravipudi: "We maintained his iconic mass image but also gave him a fresh twist with a new character. There are playful moments of self-satire that will resonate with the audience."

How did you balance the presence of two big stars, Chiranjeevi and Venkatesh?
Anil Ravipudi: "Both Chiranjeevi garu and Venkatesh garu were incredibly supportive. Their friendship made things easier. The 18 days we spent shooting together were unforgettable for me."

Can you tell us about Venkatesh’s role in the film?
Anil Ravipudi: "Venkatesh garu plays Venky Gowda, a mining businessman from Karnataka. His character is completely different from what audiences expect, and his performance will surprise everyone."

Do you feel competition during the Sankranthi season with multiple releases?
Anil Ravipudi: "I believe if the content is strong, all films will succeed. I wish success to every film releasing during this Sankranthi season."

How do you handle criticism and memes about your work?
Anil Ravipudi: "Criticism can be tough, but I try to stay positive. I take it all in stride, smiling whether people praise or criticize me."

Were there any scenes removed during the editing process?
Anil Ravipudi: "Yes, we removed a small entertainment block because it slightly disturbed the flow of the story. We wanted everything to feel seamless."

How do you approach budget planning for your films?
Anil Ravipudi: "I treat every film as if I’m the producer. Budget discipline is crucial for me, and I make sure we stay within budget while delivering the best product."

How did you feel directing Chiranjeevi, considering your admiration for him?
Anil Ravipudi: "I grew up watching his films and dancing to his songs. Directing him felt surreal, almost like returning to my childhood. It was a dream come true."

Do you think Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu will break records this Sankranthi?
Anil Ravipudi: "Ultimately, it’s up to the audience. But the hype around the film suggests it will have a big opening."

What’s next for you after this film?
Anil Ravipudi: "I plan to take a short break before thinking about my next project. I’m excited for what’s ahead."

Will you work with Nagarjuna in the future?
Anil Ravipudi: "I would love to work with Nagarjuna garu. I hope it happens soon."
