IUML Procession In Kerala Sparks Row Over Provocative Slogans
Controversy During Celebration
A celebratory procession by the Indian Union Muslim League in Kerala’s Idukki district created a major political controversy after workers reportedly raised provocative slogans following the announcement of VD Satheesan as the next Chief Minister of Kerala. The march, organised by the Congress ally, initially celebrated Satheesan’s elevation but later drew criticism over slogans claiming the League’s political influence in the state.
Leaders Targeted In Slogans
During the procession, some slogans also targeted Nair Service Society chief Sukumaran Nair and SNDP Yogam general secretary Vellappally Natesan. The remarks were seen as a reflection of political friction, as sections of these community organisations were reportedly not in favour of Satheesan’s rise to the Chief Minister’s post.
Opposition Reacts Strongly
The CPI(M) and BJP criticised Congress, alleging that the party in Kerala is influenced by the IUML. BJP state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar claimed Satheesan’s selection showed the Muslim League’s growing role in UDF politics.
Youth League Takes Action
Following the backlash, the Muslim Youth League reportedly suspended its Idukki district committee. The controversy comes after Congress announced VD Satheesan as Kerala’s next Chief Minister after days of internal discussions.
