The Union Ministry of Home Affairs has designated a Foreigners Regional Registration Officer (FRRO) in Amaravati for Andhra Pradesh. Two Gazette notifications dated September 22, 2026, remove the state from the earlier jurisdiction entry and assign it to the “Foreigners Regional Registration Officer, Amaravati.” The change gives Andhra Pradesh a dedicated regional authority for foreigner registration and related immigration matters.

The notifications amend earlier orders issued under the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025. They list Amaravati as the FRRO location responsible for Andhra Pradesh, which had previously been covered under the Hyderabad jurisdiction. This is an administrative change for foreign nationals living, working or studying in the state, as well as organisations assisting them with immigration requirements.

FRRO services can include registration, eligible visa extensions and conversions, and exit permits. The announcement does not mean that Amaravati will issue every type of new visa to Indian residents seeking to travel abroad. Those applications follow the rules of the destination country and its embassy or consulate.

A local FRRO authority could make it easier to handle cases that require regional review or an in-person appearance. However, most applicants should continue to begin through the government’s e-FRRO portal, which accepts online applications for registration and other eligible visa and immigration services. The portal says applicants can ordinarily receive services without visiting an FRRO office.

The Gazette establishes Amaravati’s jurisdiction, but it does not provide a public opening date, office address or walk-in procedure. Applicants should check the official e-FRRO portal for current instructions before planning a visit. The key development is that Andhra Pradesh now has its own designated FRRO authority in Amaravati.
