Trump-Xi Beijing Summit 2026 Focuses On Trade, Taiwan And AI Talks   Trump And Xi Push For Stable US-China Relations US President Donald Trump received a ceremonial welcome in Beijing as he began a closely watched two-day summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping at the Great Hall of the People. Calling it the “biggest summit ever,” Trump praised his personal rapport with Xi and said he believed ties between the United States and China could improve significantly in the coming years. Xi Jinping responded by saying the shared interests between both countries outweigh their differences and stressed that stable relations between Washington and Beijing are important for global peace and economic growth. The summit featured military honours, national anthems, and a state banquet attended by senior officials and business leaders. Trump’s delegation included major technology figures Elon Musk and Jensen Huang, underlining the growing importance of artificial intelligence and semiconductor cooperation in US-China relations. Trump later described his talks with Xi as “extremely positive and constructive” and invited the Chinese president to visit the United States on September 24. Trade, Taiwan And AI Safety Lead Major Discussions Trade balance remained one of the key topics during the summit. Trump urged China to further open its markets and help create fairer trade ties between the two countries. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Washington’s objective is to rebalance trade either by reducing imports from China or increasing American exports to Chinese markets. The ongoing discussions also addressed Taiwan, with Bessent stating that Trump understands the sensitivities surrounding the issue. Global energy security emerged as another major focus during the Beijing summit live discussions. According to White House officials, Trump and Xi agreed that the Strait of Hormuz must remain open to support international energy supply chains amid tensions linked to the Iran conflict. Xi reportedly opposed imposing tolls on vessels crossing the route. The leaders also discussed US-China AI talks, including the need for AI guardrails involving companies such as OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic. Analysts believe the Trump-China visit today could shape the future of trade, technology, and geopolitical relations between the world’s two largest economies.

Chinese Oil Tanker Attacked Near Strait of Hormuz Amid Rising Gulf Tensions A Chinese-owned oil tanker came under attack near the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, marking the first reported assault on a Chinese-linked vessel since tensions between the United States and Iran escalated earlier this year. The incident has heightened concerns over maritime security and the stability of global energy supply routes in the Middle East. The damaged vessel was identified as the Marshall Islands-flagged JV Innovation, which reportedly caught fire while sailing off the coast of the United Arab Emirates. Maritime sources said the ship issued distress signals after flames were seen on its deck, though there was no immediate confirmation of casualties among crew members. The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical oil transit routes, handling nearly 20 percent of global oil and gas shipments. Shipping activity in the corridor has faced increasing disruption as regional tensions have intensified, with several vessels affected and insurers and operators raising security alerts for transit through the Gulf. The latest attack comes amid a broader pattern of threats to commercial shipping in the region. Multiple recent incidents involving merchant vessels have been reported, adding to concerns among global shipping firms over crew safety and cargo security. Diplomatic efforts are underway to ease tensions, with Wang Yi holding talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on maritime security and restoring safe trade routes through the Hormuz corridor.

An Indian merchant vessel came under fire while attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, raising concerns about a possible link to a cryptocurrency scam involving fake clearance messages. Reports suggest the ship may have believed it had official permission to transit the route before the incident occurred. During the episode, the vessel reportedly contacted authorities in Iran, claiming it had received clearance to proceed. The unexpected firing has sparked questions over whether the crew was misled by fraudulent communications posing as official instructions. Maritime security agencies have noted a rise in phishing scams targeting ships in the region. Fraudsters are said to be impersonating officials and demanding payments in cryptocurrency in exchange for safe passage through the strategically critical corridor. Multiple vessels were affected by security incidents in the Strait on the same day, with other commercial ships reporting threats or damage. This has heightened concerns over maritime safety in one of the world’s busiest energy routes. Authorities and international maritime organisations have issued alerts to shipping companies, urging them to verify all communications and remain cautious of such scams. Investigations are ongoing to determine whether the firing incident was directly linked to the suspected fraud.

Iran has signaled a shift in its approach to the Strait of Hormuz during ongoing talks with the United States, proposing safe passage for ships through the Omani side of the strategic waterway. The move suggests a potential de-escalation after weeks of hardline rhetoric from Tehran. The development comes amid heightened tensions, with the U.S. military reportedly imposing restrictions on Iranian ports, disrupting global oil and LNG shipping. Against this backdrop, Iran’s proposal
