A heated exchange marked the Parliament special session as Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi strongly criticised the BJP during discussions on key legislative issues, including delimitation and the women’s reservation bill. Addressing the Lok Sabha, Gandhi accused the government of attempting to alter the constitutional balance and warned that the opposition would resist any move that undermines representation. His remarks triggered sharp reactions from treasury benches, leading to disruptions in the House.
The session focused on major proposals such as the Constitution Amendment Bill, the Delimitation Bill, and the Union Territories Laws Amendment Bill. Opposition leaders raised concerns over linking women’s reservation to delimitation, arguing it could delay implementation and affect fair representation.
The government defended its position, stating that the proposed measures aim to strengthen democracy and ensure inclusive representation across sections of society. The debate also saw participation from several leaders, with discussions ranging from caste census demands to representation for OBCs and minorities. The session remained tense, with both sides exchanging strong views ahead of key votes on the bills.
