Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring has called for a ban on an upcoming web series based on gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, raising concerns over the portrayal of criminal figures in mainstream media.
Objecting to the proposed series, Warring stated that such content could promote and glorify gangster culture, sending the wrong message to young audiences. He warned that showcasing the life of a known criminal in an engaging format may influence impressionable viewers and normalise crime.
The Congress leader also criticised what he described as inaction from both state and central authorities, questioning why such content is being allowed despite its potential social impact. He emphasised that Punjab’s identity should not be associated with crime and violence.
The series, reportedly set to release on an OTT platform, is said to explore the life and rise of the gangster, sparking debate over the line between storytelling and glorification. The controversy has intensified discussions around content regulation, creative freedom, and social responsibility in digital media.
