Cyclone Arnab Landfall Completed Near Yanam
Amaravati: Very severe cyclonic storm Arnab completed its landfall along the Andhra Pradesh and Yanam coasts on Wednesday morning, October 28, with its central region moving entirely over land.
The coastal crossing took place between 2:00 AM and 8:00 AM IST. Arnab crossed southwest of Yanam, bringing powerful winds to the coastal belt during the early morning hours.
Andhra Coast Crossing Location and Nearby Towns
The crossing point was near latitude 16.45°N and longitude 81.90°E. It was approximately 20 kilometres east-northeast of Narsapur, 40 kilometres southwest of Yanam and 60 kilometres southwest of Kakinada.
These coordinates identify the coastal crossing point rather than the full area affected by the cyclone. The completion of landfall means the storm’s central region has crossed the coastline; it does not indicate that all associated weather hazards have ended.
Wind Speeds Reached 135 Kmph During Landfall
Arnab crossed the coast with maximum sustained winds of 125–135 kmph, while gusts reached 150 kmph, according to the supplied observations. These figures describe conditions during the landfall period and should not be treated as the storm’s current wind speed at every location.
Earlier IMD bulletins had warned of a very severe cyclonic storm crossing near Yanam. The weather department was tracking the system as its outer rainbands extended inland ahead of the centre.
Coastal Safety Remains Important After Landfall
Residents should continue following IMD bulletins and district administration instructions as the system moves inland. Heavy rain, strong winds and inundation can remain concerns after the centre crosses the coast.
Authorities had advised fishing communities against venturing into the affected Bay of Bengal waters and along the Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Yanam coasts from October 26 to 29. Local official updates remain essential for decisions about travel, fishing and movement in vulnerable coastal areas.
