New Delhi, India — IMD has issued district-level rain warnings for Delhi, with heavy showers, thunderstorms and lightning expected in several areas as the monsoon turns active again.

Delhi-NCR is bracing for another spell of monsoon rain as the India Meteorological Department issued district-level warnings for parts of the national capital on Thursday, August 13. The nowcast indicated varying intensities of rainfall, ranging from light showers to heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.

According to the update, some of the most intense conditions were expected in parts of Central Delhi, South Delhi, New Delhi, South West Delhi and West Delhi. These areas were placed under the strongest category on the colour-coded district map, indicating the possibility of heavy rain along with thunder and lightning.

Moderate rain with thunderstorms was forecast for parts of Central Delhi, South Delhi, New Delhi, West Delhi and North Delhi. Lighter rain or thunderstorms were possible over South East Delhi, East Delhi, Shahdara, North East Delhi and parts of other districts. The district nowcast cited in the report was valid until 5:55 PM on August 13.

The fresh rain warning comes after several humid days in Delhi, with rainfall remaining uneven across different parts of the capital. Some neighbourhoods have witnessed short, intense showers while nearby areas have received little or no rain.

Delhi's 2026 monsoon has shown repeated swings between wet spells and relatively dry periods. Such localised downpours can quickly cause waterlogging and traffic disruption even when the overall seasonal rainfall remains below normal.

Delhi was facing a rainfall deficit of around 17% as of August 12, according to the latest available report. This corrects an apparent date inconsistency in the original report that referred to August 17, a date still in the future when the article was published on August 13.

Sudden heavy showers during the evening commute can create difficult travel conditions, particularly on roads prone to water accumulation. Residents travelling through Central, South, West and New Delhi should watch for rapidly changing weather, reduced visibility and thunderstorms.
