CM Revanth Reddy invited Prince Rahim Aga Khan V to the Telangana Global Summit scheduled for December 7–9 at Future City.
Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has invited Prince Rahim Aga Khan V to attend the Telangana Global Summit, strengthening the state government’s outreach to global development organisations and international partners.
The invitation was extended during a meeting at Taj Falaknuma Palace in Hyderabad on Tuesday. Prince Rahim Aga Khan V, the 50th hereditary Imam of the Shia Ismaili Muslims and Chairman of the Aga Khan Development Network, was visiting Telangana for the first time.
Revanth Reddy informed Prince Rahim that the Telangana Global Summit would be organised at Future City on December 7, 8 and 9. Representatives from more than 100 countries are expected to participate in the three-day event.
The summit is being positioned as a major international platform to showcase Telangana’s investment opportunities, infrastructure plans, urban development initiatives and long-term economic vision. By inviting the AKDN chairman, the government is seeking to expand cooperation with an organisation known for its work in healthcare, education, heritage conservation and community development.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister appreciated the Aga Khan Foundation for its contribution to the restoration and conservation of Telangana’s historic landmarks.
He highlighted the organisation’s role in restoring important heritage structures, including the Qutb Shahi Tombs and the Legislative Council building. The Qutb Shahi Tombs project is regarded as an important example of heritage conservation supporting tourism, cultural identity and urban renewal in Hyderabad. Revanth Reddy sought the foundation’s cooperation in restoring the historic City College and the existing Osmania General Hospital building, both of which are situated along the Musi River basin.
The Chief Minister said the state government was preparing plans for the rejuvenation of the Musi River and wanted the Aga Khan Foundation to participate in the restoration of heritage assets located along its banks.
He explained that a new building for Osmania General Hospital was being constructed at Goshamahal. Once the healthcare services are shifted, the government plans to conserve and develop the existing hospital building as a heritage asset.
The administration also wants to transform the Musi River corridor into a centre for Hyderabad’s night economy. The proposed development is expected to combine heritage conservation, tourism, recreation and commercial activity while improving the riverfront environment.
Prince Rahim highlighted the Aga Khan Development Network’s contributions to Telangana in areas such as urban renewal, community healthcare, employment generation and women-led development. He said these initiatives had delivered significant benefits to local communities and stressed the importance of sustaining and expanding the partnership between the AKDN and the Telangana government.
Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla had welcomed Prince Rahim to Lok Bhavan on Monday during his first official visit to India and Telangana after assuming his responsibilities. The engagements underline the possibility of broader cooperation between the state and the AKDN in heritage protection, public health and inclusive development.
