Delhi Vehicle Ban From November 1 to Affect Over 10 Lakh NCR Vehicles

Delhi will restrict the entry of non-BS6 vehicles registered outside the capital from November 1, 2026. The move could affect commuters across neighbouring NCR cities, where more than 10 lakh vehicles fall below the latest emission standard.

Delhi BS6 Entry Rules From November 1

Under Delhi's winter pollution plan, petrol and diesel vehicles registered outside the city that fail to meet Bharat Stage 6 (BS6) norms will be barred from entering between November 1, 2026, and January 31, 2027.

The restriction targets older, higher-emission vehicles coming from nearby cities. The wider winter action plan will continue until February 28, 2027. Daily commuters travelling for work or business should confirm their vehicles' eligibility before crossing the border.

Over 10 Lakh NCR Vehicles Below BS6 Norms

Transport department estimates show that Gurugram and Faridabad together have nearly 2 lakh vehicles below BS6 norms, including around 50,000 commercial vehicles. About 70 percent of those vehicles meet BS3 or BS4 standards. Noida and Greater Noida have more than 4 lakh vehicles below BS6, with BS4 models accounting for over half, mainly petrol cars. Ghaziabad has around 4 lakh more.

These are estimates of vehicles below the standard, not the exact number that will be stopped, since some qualify for exemptions.

Which Vehicles Are Exempt From the Ban?

BS6-compliant vehicles registered outside Delhi can still enter. CNG and electric vehicles are exempt, as are ambulances, fire tenders and specified essential-service vehicles. The new rule does not cover Delhi-registered vehicles under this particular entry provision,

Although existing vehicle-age limits and other pollution rules remain in force. Owners should check the fuel type, registration and BS emission category before planning a trip.

ANPR Cameras and Strict Delhi Border Checks

Authorities are tightening checks on routes from Noida, Gurugram and Ghaziabad. Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras will read registration plates and help flag vehicles for inspection.

Officials also plan physical checks at entry points, with about 300 transport enforcement personnel expected to be deployed. The restriction is aimed at reducing vehicle emissions during Delhi's winter pollution season. Affected commuters may need to consider the Metro, shared rides or other transport options.
