Kerala Worker Killed In Qatar Blast, Family Awaits Return

Thiruvananthapuram, June 24: Leader of the Opposition in the Kerala Assembly, Pinarayi Vijayan, on Wednesday wrote to Chief Minister V D Satheesan, urging immediate steps to bring home the mortal remains of Arjun, a Kerala worker who died in the Qatar blast.

Arjun, a native of Kozhikode district, died after an explosion at an industrial facility in Qatar’s Ras Laffan Industrial City on Sunday night, June 21, 2026. The incident claimed several lives, including Indian workers.

Vijayan Seeks Immediate Action

In his letter, Vijayan requested the Chief Minister to coordinate with officials at the Indian Embassy in Qatar and ensure that all required procedures are completed without delay.

He said the repatriation process should be treated as urgent so that Arjun’s mortal remains can be brought back to his family in Kerala at the earliest.

Family Awaits Final Rites

Arjun’s family is waiting to receive his mortal remains and perform the final rites in their hometown. The tragedy has caused deep grief among his relatives and the local community in Kozhikode district.

For families of migrant workers, such incidents bring both emotional pain and practical difficulties, especially when official procedures have to be completed in another country.

Embassy And NORKA Coordination

Repatriation in such cases usually involves hospital documentation, local clearance, embassy support, and travel arrangements. Officials said Indian Embassy and NORKA-related channels are coordinating the repatriation process.

The state government is expected to work with Indian diplomatic authorities and concerned officials in Qatar to avoid further delay.

Ras Laffan Explosion

The explosion took place at Ras Laffan Industrial City, one of Qatar’s major industrial and energy hubs. Reports said 13 people died in the incident, including 12 Indians, while several others were injured.

Qatari authorities described the incident as a technical accident. The injured workers were taken for medical treatment, and officials are examining the circumstances that led to the explosion.

Focus On Humane Response

The immediate priority is to complete the formalities and bring Arjun’s mortal remains home with dignity. Vijayan’s appeal has added urgency to the process and highlighted the need for timely support for Indian workers and their families during emergencies abroad.

For Arjun’s family, a swift and humane response from authorities can help them complete the final rites and begin to cope with the loss.
