TMC Faces Fresh Pressure Amid Rebel MP Claims
The Trinamool Congress is facing fresh political pressure as rebel MP claims and resignations deepen the crisis. Amid speculation over his stand, Shatrughan Sinha has denied joining the rebel camp and said he remains with Mamata Banerjee.
The crisis within the Trinamool Congress deepened on Thursday as party MP Shatrughan Sinha denied reports linking him to a rebel camp and firmly reaffirmed his loyalty to Mamata Banerjee.
Sinha’s clarification came at a time when the party is facing growing internal pressure, with a rebel faction claiming support from several MPs and fresh resignations adding to the uncertainty around the Mamata Banerjee-led party.
Shatrughan Sinha Denies Rebel Camp Reports
Amid speculation that his name was among TMC MPs who had moved towards the rebel group, Shatrughan Sinha said there was no question of abandoning Mamata Banerjee during a difficult phase.
The Asansol MP said Mamata had stood by him when he faced political setbacks and helped him return to public life. He also recalled that he was elected on the Trinamool Congress symbol and considered it his duty to remain with the party.
His statement is significant because the TMC is currently battling one of its toughest internal challenges, with reports of factional activity among MPs and senior leaders.
Rebel Faction Stakes Claim
The rebel group, led by Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, has reportedly sought recognition as a separate parliamentary bloc. The faction has argued that the party is no longer functioning according to its own constitutional framework.
The claim has increased pressure on the TMC leadership, as the rebel bloc is reportedly trying to present itself as the real Trinamool Congress. Such a move could create a major legal and political challenge for the party if it is formally pursued before the Lok Sabha Speaker or the Election Commission.
Rajya Sabha Exit Adds To TMC Trouble
The crisis also widened after Prakash Chik Baraik resigned as a Rajya Sabha MP. His resignation came after the exits of Sukhendu Sekhar Roy and Sushmita Dev, making it the third such Rajya Sabha resignation from the party in recent days.
With these exits, the party’s strength in the Upper House is expected to reduce further. Reports also suggest that more resignations may follow, adding to the uncertainty inside the party.
Abhishek Banerjee Still In Delhi
While Mamata Banerjee returned to West Bengal after her Delhi visit, Abhishek Banerjee remained in the national capital. His meeting with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also attracted attention as speculation continued over opposition coordination and the future of the INDIA bloc.
However, Congress leaders have rejected speculation about a possible merger with the TMC, saying discussions were limited to national political issues.
Political Pressure Mounts On Mamata
The latest developments show that the Trinamool Congress is facing pressure on multiple fronts. One section of MPs is reportedly seeking separate recognition, some Rajya Sabha members have quit, and senior leaders are openly voicing concerns.
At the same time, Shatrughan Sinha’s public support gives Mamata Banerjee a visible message of loyalty from within the party at a difficult moment.
For now, the TMC leadership faces the challenge of holding its parliamentary strength together while responding to rebel claims and internal dissatisfaction. The next few days may be crucial in deciding whether the crisis remains a factional dispute or turns into a larger formal split.
