Kalvakuntla Kavitha, once branded as the “Lady in Liquor Scam” during the height of the Delhi liquor scam case, has now been acquitted by the CBI court in Delhi. The court cleared her of all charges, citing a lack of evidence in the case.
The allegations surrounding Kavitha’s name led to months of intense political scrutiny and legal battles. At one point, the BRS (Bharat Rashtra Samithi) party took action, and Kavitha was removed from her position within the party, amid other ongoing concerns. Despite the serious political consequences, the court’s decision comes as a major relief for Kavitha, as she is now formally cleared of any involvement in the controversial case.
Along with Kavitha, former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, and 23 other accused individuals were also acquitted by the court. The judgment pointed out that no criminal evidence could be presented against any of the accused, leading to their clean chits.
Political Impact and Future Prospects
The case had significant political ramifications. Kavitha faced considerable setbacks, including her ousting from the BRS party, while Arvind Kejriwal and his AAP party suffered a major blow with the loss in the Delhi Assembly elections. These events showcased the weight of the allegations in the public and political domain.
For Kavitha, the acquittal brings a positive turn. As she navigates the complex political landscape of Telangana, this clean chit is likely to help her rebuild her public image. Her involvement in Telangana politics, through initiatives like Jagruti, and reports of potential plans for a new political venture, have been gaining momentum. The acquittal could bolster her position, help regain public trust, and perhaps even garner sympathy from sections of the public.
