Vijay’s Political Momentum Remains Strong Despite Numbers Challenge
Chennai | May 7, 2026: Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay continues to dominate Tamil Nadu politics despite his party falling short of the majority mark in the Assembly elections. TVK secured 108 seats in the 234-member Assembly, leaving the party 10 seats short of the required majority to form the government. However, Vijay’s growing political influence and public support have significantly changed the state’s political landscape.
Vijay recently met Governor Rajendra Arlekar and formally staked a claim to form the government with the support of around 112 MLAs. Sources said the Governor asked him to prove majority support before moving ahead with the swearing-in process. Even though the numbers remain uncertain, Vijay’s confidence and political momentum continue to attract support from various parties and independent legislators.
Congress has already extended support to TVK, marking a major political shift in Tamil Nadu. Reports also suggest that some leaders and factions from other parties, including AIADMK, are exploring possible support options. Political observers believe Vijay’s popularity among youth voters and first-time voters has played a crucial role in strengthening his position after the elections.
The election results are being seen as a major challenge to the long-standing dominance of the DMK and AIADMK in Tamil Nadu politics. Vijay’s entry has created a new political force in the state, with many voters viewing TVK as a fresh alternative to traditional Dravidian parties. His campaign style, strong fan base, and focus on change have helped him gain massive public attention across Tamil Nadu.
