UIDAI’s new Aadhaar app brings safer QR sharing, face authentication, and biometric lock controls
mAadhaar App To Be Replaced
UIDAI’s old mAadhaar app will soon be discontinued as the government moves users to a new Aadhaar app with improved security and easier digital identity access. The new app is not just a redesigned version of mAadhaar. It focuses on safer Aadhaar sharing, better privacy, and stronger verification for daily use.
One of the key features is QR-based Aadhaar sharing. Instead of showing full Aadhaar details, users can share only the required information through secure QR verification. This can help during identity checks at hotels, hospitals, government offices, and other service counters.
QR Verification And Face Authentication
The new Aadhaar app also brings stronger login and authentication options. Along with OTP verification, users may need face authentication or QR verification depending on the service. Users can also lock or manage biometric data such as fingerprint, face, and iris authentication directly through the app.
To set it up, users must download the official Aadhaar app from a verified app store, select a language, enter the Aadhaar-linked mobile number, and complete OTP verification. Some users may also be asked to complete face authentication before creating a PIN or enabling biometric unlock. UIDAI has also extended free online Aadhaar document updates on the myAadhaar portal until June 14, 2027.
