Lockdown in India? Hardeep Singh Puri Dismisses Rumours as Completely False

Amid growing speculation about a possible nationwide lockdown in India, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has clarified that such rumours are entirely false. In a statement aimed at dispelling public concerns, Puri emphasized that there are no plans for any lockdown or restrictions on public movement. He urged citizens to stay calm, responsible, and united during these uncertain times.

Puri took to social media to reassure the public, explaining that the government is closely monitoring global developments, particularly the impact of rising oil prices and supply chain disruptions. He assured that all necessary steps are being taken to ensure the uninterrupted availability of fuel, energy, and essential supplies. "Under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi, we are fully prepared to handle emerging challenges," Puri stated.

The clarification comes in the wake of widespread panic triggered by misinformation about a lockdown, with some speculating that the ongoing global crises could prompt India to impose similar measures to the 2020 COVID-19 lockdown. Puri strongly rejected these rumours, calling them irresponsible and harmful.

The confusion also stemmed from comments by Prime Minister Modi, who referred to “preparedness” in relation to the current global situation. However, government officials clarified that these remarks were about administrative readiness, not a signal for lockdowns or mobility restrictions. The government’s firm stance aims to assure citizens and businesses that India is prepared to manage any challenges without resorting to drastic measures that could harm economic activity or public welfare.
