Mohan Yadav Family Land Row: Ujjain Deals Spark Congress Attack
Bhopal, June 23, 2026: A political controversy has erupted in Madhya Pradesh after a media report claimed that Chief Minister Mohan Yadav’s family members and linked real estate firms acquired large parcels of land in Ujjain during a period of major infrastructure expansion.
According to the report, the purchases included at least 137 plots spread across nearly 168 acres, with the total value estimated at around ₹45 crore. The transactions were reportedly made after Mohan Yadav became Chief Minister in December 2023.
Land Purchases Near Ujjain Development Projects
The report claimed that several of the land parcels are located near areas connected to new roads and infrastructure projects in Ujjain. Some plots were also said to be in zones where land-use changes could increase the commercial or residential value of the land.
Ujjain has been witnessing major development activity, especially with road expansion, urban planning, and tourism-related projects linked to the city’s future growth.
Congress Questions Government Accountability
The Congress has strongly attacked the BJP government over the issue. Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh cited the report and accused the Madhya Pradesh government of allowing what he called an “engine of plunder.”
The opposition has demanded answers from the state government, saying the matter raises questions about possible conflict of interest, land value gains, and transparency in public infrastructure planning.
Officials Reject Direct Link With CM Office
The report said the Chief Minister and his office did not respond to detailed queries. However, officials quoted in the report rejected the attempt to directly link the Chief Minister’s office with private land transactions by family members.
They said some members of the family have been involved in real estate-related business for years and argued that private individuals are legally allowed to buy or sell land.
Why The Row Has Gained Attention
The controversy has become politically sensitive because it involves land purchases, public infrastructure projects, and allegations of advance knowledge about development plans. Land prices often rise sharply when roads, highways, or land-use changes are planned, making transparency important in such cases.
At present, the allegations are based on a media report and opposition claims, and no official finding of wrongdoing has been announced.
The issue is likely to remain in focus in Madhya Pradesh politics as the Congress continues to target the BJP government and demand a clearer explanation on the Ujjain land deals.
