DMK-Congress Rift Deepens After Murasoli Attack On Rahul Gandhi
The political tension between the DMK and Congress has intensified after the DMK’s official mouthpiece, Murasoli, sharply criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over the INDIA bloc unity and the recent Tamil Nadu alliance fallout. The issue has added fresh pressure on opposition unity, especially in Tamil Nadu politics.
DMK Questions Congress Over Alliance Politics
In its editorial, Murasoli accused the Congress of speaking about opposition unity while allegedly working against alliance partners in state elections. The DMK paper claimed that Congress expected support from regional parties during the Lok Sabha polls but failed to respect their role in Assembly elections.
The criticism comes after Congress moved away from the DMK-led alliance in Tamil Nadu and extended support to the ruling TVK. This political shift has created a fresh strain between the two parties and raised questions about the future of opposition coordination in the state.
Murasoli Targets Rahul Gandhi’s Unity Remarks
Murasoli also criticised Rahul Gandhi’s recent remarks at an INDIA bloc meeting, where he spoke about the need for opposition parties to remain united. The DMK paper called the comments a delayed realisation and questioned whether Congress had protected alliance unity in different states.
The editorial referred to criticism from Left leaders and other INDIA bloc members, saying Congress’s approach had caused friction within the opposition camp. It also questioned Rahul Gandhi’s campaign remarks in Kerala against the Left leadership, arguing that such statements had weakened trust among anti-BJP parties.
Tamil Nadu Fallout Puts INDIA Bloc Under Pressure
The Tamil Nadu alliance issue has now become a major concern for the INDIA bloc. The DMK was one of the key regional forces in the opposition grouping, and its open criticism of Congress shows that the disagreement is no longer limited to internal discussions.
Murasoli alleged that Congress had betrayed the DMK while still speaking about national-level unity. The editorial asked how Congress could seek cooperation from regional parties in Parliament after opposing them in state-level contests.
Congress Response Awaited
Congress’s response to the DMK criticism was not immediately available. However, the latest editorial has clearly deepened the political divide between the two former allies.
The row also shows the difficulty of balancing national opposition unity with state-level political rivalries. Unless Congress and regional parties find a clearer understanding for future elections, the INDIA bloc may continue to face internal pressure.
