Congress Raps Revanth Reddy Over HYDRAA Hitler Remark

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has come under criticism from his own party after his remarks linking the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency, HYDRAA, to Adolf Hitler triggered a political row.

The Congress leadership has expressed displeasure over the statement, with senior leaders saying the remark was not in line with the party’s values and ideology. Congress general secretary K.C. Venugopal reportedly described the comment as unacceptable and advised Reddy to be more careful in his public statements.

Congress Distances Itself From Remark

The controversy began after Revanth Reddy, while speaking at a conclave in Bengaluru, claimed that the name and idea of HYDRAA were inspired by Hitler’s fondness for the word “Hydra”. The statement quickly drew attention because of the reference to one of history’s most controversial dictators.

Reddy commented while defending HYDRAA’s role in removing encroachments and protecting lakes, government lands, and water bodies in Hyderabad. He also argued that similar agencies were needed in other major cities to deal with flooding, illegal encroachments, and environmental damage.

Opposition Targets Telangana CM

Opposition parties, including the BJP, BRS, and Left parties, strongly criticised the chief minister over the remark. BJP leaders accused Reddy of showing a dictatorial mindset and demanded an apology.

Union minister and Secunderabad MP G. Kishan Reddy also attacked the Congress, claiming the statement reflected an “Emergency mindset”. Left leaders also objected to the reference and said invoking Hitler in the context of governance was worrying.

HYDRAA Debate Turns Political

HYDRAA has already been a debated subject in Telangana due to its anti-encroachment actions in and around Hyderabad. The latest controversy has now shifted the debate from civic enforcement to political language and democratic values.

With Congress itself distancing from the statement, the row has become a political embarrassment for the Telangana chief minister. The issue is likely to remain a talking point as opposition parties continue to question both HYDRAA’s actions and Reddy’s choice of words.
