Actress Laya Exclusive Interview About Her Return to Comedy in Sampraadayini Suppini Suddhapusani

Actress Laya Exclusive Interview About Her Return to Comedy in Sampraadayini Suppini Suddhapusani

How does it feel to collaborate with Shivaji again after two decades?
It’s been nearly 20 years since Shivaji garu and I worked together. Initially, I thought "Sampraadayini Suppini Suddhapusani" would be a family drama, but when I learned it was a comedy entertainer, I was thrilled. Comedy is my favorite genre, and this film is full of humor, with an engaging crime-thriller twist. It’s a film that appeals to all age groups and connects with everyone.

Can you describe your character in the film?
I play Uttara, a role unlike anything I’ve done before. It’s an incredibly strong character that even outshines powerful roles like Mangapathi's. Shivaji garu encouraged me a lot, and I really enjoyed portraying this character. The scenes between Shivaji and me are filled with humor and are bound to entertain the audience.

Was the movie initially planned for an OTT release? Now it's coming to theatres, how do you feel?
Initially, the movie was planned for OTT, which made me a bit disappointed, as I’m used to watching myself on the big screen. However, after several prominent individuals who watched the film recommended it for theatrical release, we decided to go ahead with it. My daughter was particularly happy about it, as she prefers watching my films in theatres. Now, we’re excited about its theatre release.

What are your expectations from the film's release?
The response to the trailer has been great, and people are excited about it. This film will surely entertain everyone. It’s the kind of movie that will leave the audience satisfied, as it will cater to all sections of the audience.

Have you noticed any changes in Shivaji over the years?
Shivaji's passion for cinema has only grown stronger. He constantly thinks about how to present films to the audience in the best possible way. His love for films has deepened, and this passion reflects in his work.

What do you think of director Sudheer Sriram’s work on the film?
Sudheer Sriram is a talented director with a clear vision. He wrote an engaging story and executed it very well. His direction brings out exactly what he wants from the actors. He doesn’t compromise and knows exactly how to make the film hilarious and effective.

What makes your role special in 'Sampraadayini Suppini Suddhapusani'?
In this film, unlike my usual emotional roles, I play a character who makes others cry! My character is somewhat selfish, always focusing on her husband and family, wanting everything to go well for them. It's a unique role, and I had a lot of fun portraying it.

What kind of roles do you want to take on in the future?
I don’t focus solely on lead roles; if I like a script, I’ll take on any role, no matter the size. Since female roles often have limited scope, I want to select strong characters. I’ve done softer roles before, but now I’m eager to portray more powerful roles. You’ll see a new side of me in the movie Vadhalu.

What can you tell us about your upcoming films?
In Vadhalu, I play the wife of Jagapathi Babu. I’m also working on a film with Srikanth, directed by Nageswara Reddy, which is a socio-fantasy film in the style of Yamaleela. Vadhalu is a psychological thriller, and I’m enjoying experimenting with different genres.
