Bollywood to Hollywood: Exclusive Interview with Priyanka Chopra on Career Challenges and Triumphs

Why did you decide to move from Bollywood to Hollywood?
I never intended to leave Bollywood. At one point, I felt there were fewer creative opportunities in India. That led me to look for new challenges and roles abroad, and that’s when I found myself in America, where I got roles that pushed my limits and helped me grow as an actor.

What obstacles did you face in Bollywood?
One of the biggest challenges I faced was coming from outside the film industry. Unlike star kids, I didn't have a built-in support system, and the industry politics were tough to navigate. It took a lot of effort to carve out my own path and find my place in Bollywood.

How did you get started in Hollywood?
My journey began in 2012 when I traveled to the United States for music. That experience opened doors to acting in television and films. Gradually, I managed to build a career in Hollywood, where I was able to showcase my versatility and grow as an actor.

How do you manage to work in both Bollywood and Hollywood today?
I’m fortunate to be able to work in both industries. Each offers a unique experience, and I never wanted to choose between them. I enjoy the different challenges both markets offer, and I feel grateful for the opportunity to work on exciting projects internationally while still returning to Indian cinema.

What does your return to Indian cinema with Varanasi mean to you?
I'm thrilled to return to India with Varanasi. Working with SS Rajamouli is a dream come true, and being part of such a grand project fills me with pride. I’m eager to connect with Indian audiences again and showcase something new and exciting.

What should audiences expect from your upcoming film The Bluff?
The Bluff is an action-adventure film where I play a pirate. The film demanded a lot physically, and I did many of my own stunts. Shooting in real locations gave it a level of authenticity that will be very exciting for the audience. I’m sure they will enjoy the scale and intensity of the movie.

How do you feel about where your career is today?
After over a decade of international work, I feel incredibly grateful for everything I’ve experienced. I’m now in a position to select projects that truly resonate with me, and that brings a deep sense of fulfillment as an artist.
