Anushka Shetty Discusses Her Role in Ghaati as Sheelavathi – Exclusive Interview

Anushka, how does it feel to be making an action-adventure film like Ghaati in your 20th year in filmmaking?

Anushka Shetty: It’s very exciting! The character of Sheelavathi in Ghaati is amazing. I've never done anything like this before. Sheelavathi has many beautiful shades, and this film really takes me out of my comfort zone. It's a strong role, similar to the ones I’ve done in Arundhati, Baahubali, and other projects, but Sheelavathi has a unique essence to her.

What was your initial reaction when you first heard the story of Ghaati?

Anushka Shetty: When Krish and writer Srinivas narrated the story, I was immediately intrigued by the unique culture they presented. After visiting the locations, my excitement only grew. I loved the idea of showcasing a fresh character, culture, and visuals to the audience.

Ghaati features the issue of marijuana. What kind of impact does this create in the story?

Anushka Shetty: Krish is known for choosing stories with social relevance, and the marijuana issue in Ghaati highlights a serious societal problem. However, we've framed it within an action-commercial entertainer that carries a positive message, which I think will resonate well with audiences.

This is your first film with Krish after Vedam. Do you think Ghaati will live up to the expectations of that collaboration?

Anushka Shetty: Absolutely! We wanted to make a film that continues the spirit of Saroja from Vedam. Ghaati came at the right time, and I’m thankful to Krish for offering me such wonderful roles. Sheelavathi’s character in Ghaati will be a significant part of my filmography.

Ghaati was shot on the Andhra-Orissa border. How did you feel about shooting in remote areas?

Anushka Shetty: Shooting in new locations is always exciting. There was a lot of physical hard work involved, but Krish had everything well planned. It turned out to be an incredibly memorable experience. I really enjoyed the journey.

How was it working with Vikram Prabhu in Ghaati?

Anushka Shetty: I’ve known Vikram for a while, and I really liked his work in Kumki. He’s a true gentleman, and he was perfect for the role of Desiraju in Ghaati. It was a pleasure working with him.

How did the film’s cinematographer Manoj and music director Sagar contribute to the overall feel of the film?

Anushka Shetty: Manoj’s cinematography brought a fresh perspective to the film, and Sagar’s music added a unique depth to the story. The music itself feels like a character. Krish’s lyrics, especially the song ‘Kundeti Chukka’, brought so much emotion to the narrative.

How do you spend your leisure time?

Anushka Shetty: I love traveling and reading books. Currently, I’m reading the Mahabharata. I also enjoy watching movies and spending quality time with my family, which has become even more important over the last couple of years.

Are there any characters you’d like to play in the future?

Anushka Shetty: I would love to play a negative character. If a strong and compelling role like that comes my way, I would definitely take it on.

Are you listening to new stories for future projects?

Anushka Shetty: Yes, I have a great lineup ahead. I’m doing my first Malayalam film, and there’s also an interesting new Telugu project that I’m excited about.

Any closing thoughts for your fans?

Anushka Shetty: I’m so grateful to all my fans for their constant love and support. I hope you enjoy Ghaati and Sheelavathi’s character. Thank you!

All the best
Thank you so much.

You once said, "I won my flops more than my hits." Can you explain that? Naresh: "Failures have taught me invaluable lessons. When a film doesn't perform well, it forces me to reflect on my work, identify areas of improvement, and evolve as an actor. In many ways, I believe those failures made me stronger, more patient, and more self-aware. That’s why I say I’ve won more through them than my successes." How do you handle the emotional toll of a film not performing well at the box office? Naresh:
