The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Hyderabad has led to notices being issued to several high-profile personalities from films, sports and business over discrepancies in voter records. The Election Commission’s exercise is aimed at verifying and updating electoral details, while hearings remain underway for affected voters.
Mahesh Babu, Rajamouli and Other Prominent Names Receive Notices
Several well-known personalities in Hyderabad have reportedly received notices from the Election Commission as part of the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. The names include actor Mahesh Babu, filmmaker SS Rajamouli, badminton stars Pullela Gopichand and Saina Nehwal, former cricketer VVS Laxman, former India women’s cricket captain Mithali Raj, businessman Divi’s Murali Krishna Prasad and Upasana Konidela of the Apollo family. Their names reportedly appear in the Election Commission’s “List of Persons to Whom Notices Have Been Issued” after publication of the draft electoral roll on August 17, 2026.
Film Personalities Also Figure in Election Commission List
A number of leading figures from the Telugu film industry are also said to have received notices. Apart from Mahesh Babu and SS Rajamouli, the list reportedly includes Namrata Shirodkar, Venkatesh Daggubati and his two daughters, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Vijay Deverakonda and Anand Deverakonda. The notices do not necessarily mean that their names have been permanently deleted from the voter rolls, but indicate that certain details require verification or clarification during the revision process.
Name and Parent Details Among Reasons for Notices
The notices have reportedly been issued for multiple reasons, including name mismatches, parent-name discrepancies and cases described as “unmapped with last SIR”. In some entries, the reason column has reportedly been left blank. The Election Commission is using the revision exercise to check voter information, identify discrepancies and ensure that electoral roll details are accurate. Hyderabad District Election Officer RV Karnan said that VIPs who are unable to personally attend hearings can authorise someone to appear on their behalf. He also indicated that several prominent individuals are yet to attend their hearings and still have time to respond.
Concerns Raised Over Impact on Ordinary Voters
Officials have pointed out that celebrities form only a small part of the much larger group of voters whose records may contain discrepancies. However, the presence of several high-profile names in the notice list has prompted concerns from social activists about how ordinary voters will handle similar issues. They argue that people with less awareness or fewer resources may find it more difficult to respond to notices or attend hearings. The verification process is still continuing, and voters who have received notices can submit documents, clarify discrepancies and provide the necessary information before election authorities complete the revision of the rolls.
