Naidu Pushes Telecom Firms To Improve Andhra Mobile Coverage

Amaravati, July 1: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has directed telecom companies to strengthen mobile connectivity in remote areas by setting up additional towers and improving network infrastructure across the state.

The move is aimed at ensuring last-mile digital connectivity in villages, remote habitations and uncovered locations, where poor mobile signals continue to affect communication, online services and access to government schemes.

Andhra Mobile Connectivity Push Gets New Focus

During a review meeting with representatives of major telecom service providers at his camp office, officials informed the Chief Minister that Andhra Pradesh currently has 30,694 mobile towers.

They also said the state requires another 2,310 towers to achieve wider and more reliable network coverage.

Naidu asked telecom companies to focus especially on remote regions and geographically uncovered areas. He said communication services should reach even the remotest villages as part of the state government’s digital infrastructure push.

2,310 New Towers Proposed For Better Coverage

The Chief Minister asked telecom service providers to examine the possibility of completing the proposed tower installations within 100 days.

He also directed officials to identify uncovered locations and share the details with telecom companies to speed up network expansion.

The government said it would support telecom operators in facilitating tower installations and related infrastructure requirements.

Amaravati To Get Advanced Fibre Network

Naidu also said Amaravati is being developed with an advanced fibre-based communication network.

According to officials, the system is being planned in a way that ensures fibre connectivity to every household without repeated road digging in the capital region.

Officials said Andhra Pradesh currently has nearly 1.7 lakh km of optical fibre network and more than 2.8 million broadband connections.

Digital Connectivity Seen As Public Service Priority

The Chief Minister said Andhra Pradesh aims to become a model state in communication infrastructure by ensuring seamless connectivity across both urban and rural areas.

He also urged telecom firms to work with the government in promoting digital literacy among mobile users.

Better mobile and broadband connectivity is expected to support online education, digital payments, telemedicine, emergency communication and faster access to government services in rural Andhra Pradesh.

The latest direction signals that the state government wants to treat mobile connectivity not only as telecom infrastructure, but also as an essential public service for citizens in remote areas.
