Kolkata Warehouse Collapse: 3 Killed, 18 Injured As Rescue Operation Continues In Taratala

A major rescue operation is underway in Kolkata’s Taratala area after the roof of an under-construction warehouse collapsed on Wednesday, leaving three people dead and several others injured.

Kolkata Warehouse Collapse Leaves Workers Trapped

At least three people were killed and 18 others injured after the roof of an under-construction warehouse collapsed in Kolkata’s Taratala area on Wednesday. Several labourers were trapped under the debris following the incident, triggering a large-scale rescue operation.

According to officials quoted in reports, 13 people had been rescued from the site, while emergency teams continued searching through the debris for those feared trapped. The injured were rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Army, Police And Disaster Teams Join Rescue Work

The Army was deployed to assist in the rescue efforts, while Kolkata Police and disaster management teams were also present at the spot. Heavy machinery was brought in to clear the debris and reach workers who may still be trapped beneath the collapsed structure.

Preliminary information suggested that concrete casting work was underway when the roof gave way. Officials have yet to confirm the exact cause of the collapse.

Faulty Building Plan Alleged

The incident has also triggered questions over construction safety at the site. West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari expressed grief over the loss of lives and said the building plan of the under-construction warehouse was faulty.

Authorities are expected to examine whether safety norms were followed during construction and whether any lapses contributed to the collapse.

Safety Concerns Over Construction Sites

The Taratala warehouse collapse has once again raised concerns over worker safety at under-construction sites. Labourers working at such locations often face high risks when structural checks, safety supervision, and emergency preparedness are not properly maintained.

The Kolkata warehouse collapse has left three people dead, several injured, and many families anxious as rescue teams continue operations at the Taratala site. Officials are likely to investigate the cause of the collapse and assess whether construction safety rules were violated.
