Southern Railway has announced special superfast train services between Chennai Egmore and Kanyakumari to manage the heavy rush of passengers during the summer vacation season. The additional services are expected to provide major relief for travelers heading towards southern Tamil Nadu and Kerala as regular trains on the route are witnessing increased booking demand. Railway authorities introduced the special trains after observing long waiting lists and high passenger movement during the holiday period.
As per the railway schedule, Train No. 06045 Chennai Egmore–Kanyakumari Summer Special Superfast Express will begin service from May 15, 2026. The train will depart from Chennai Egmore at 11.50 PM and reach Kanyakumari at 1.00 PM the next day. In the return direction, Train No. 06046 Kanyakumari–Chennai Egmore Summer Special Superfast Express will start from May 17, 2026. The train will leave Kanyakumari at 11.25 PM and arrive at Chennai Egmore at 11.30 AM the following day. The special service is expected to operate on selected dates during the summer season.
Railway officials stated that the trains will stop at several important railway stations along the route, helping passengers from multiple districts travel more comfortably during the peak vacation period. The trains will include sleeper class coaches, air-conditioned compartments, and general seating facilities to accommodate different categories of passengers. Travelers have been advised to reserve tickets early through official Indian Railways booking platforms due to the expected rise in demand for summer travel.
The announcement has been welcomed by tourists, students, families, and regular commuters planning trips to destinations including Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Madurai, Nagercoil, and nearby regions. Southern Railway officials said passenger convenience and safety remain top priorities, and additional arrangements may be made to ensure smooth operations during the holiday rush. With thousands expected to travel during the summer holidays, the newly introduced superfast trains are likely to reduce congestion on regular services and improve overall travel convenience across southern India.
