AIADMK rebel camp faces fresh trouble after three MLAs joined Vijay’s TVK government
AIADMK Rebel Camp Under Pressure
Tamil Nadu politics has seen another major twist as one more AIADMK MLA from the SP Velumani camp is likely to resign, according to sources. The possible exit comes just a day after three AIADMK legislators left the party and joined Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay’s ruling TVK.
The MLA’s name has not been officially revealed yet. However, reports say the legislator was among the AIADMK MLAs who had earlier defied the party whip and voted in favour of the TVK government during the May 13 trust vote. This has increased the pressure on AIADMK, which is already facing internal differences.
Three MLAs Join Vijay’s TVK
On Tuesday, AIADMK MLAs Maragatham Kumaravel, Sathyabama, and Jayakumar resigned from the party and formally joined TVK. All three were linked to the Velumani-led faction. After these exits, the rebel group’s strength is said to have reduced from 25 to 17.
The political crisis began after a group of AIADMK MLAs, led by senior leader CV Shanmugam, extended support to Vijay’s TVK. In the April 23 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, AIADMK won 47 seats, while TVK became the single-largest party with 108 seats but did not get a clear majority.
TVK later formed the government with support from Congress, IUML, VCK, and Left parties. Meanwhile, SP Velumani has said he has no plan to split AIADMK and added that Edappadi K Palaniswami continues to be the party’s leader.
