Nashik Teen Death After Td Vaccine: Batch Suspended, Probe Ordered

Nashik, June 26, 2026: A 17-year-old girl died after collapsing shortly after receiving a Td vaccine dose at a municipal immunisation camp in Nashik, with officials suspending the vaccine batch as a precaution and ordering a detailed AEFI probe.

Officials have not confirmed any direct link between the vaccine and the death so far. Health authorities said the exact cause will be known only after the post-mortem, forensic analysis, vaccine sample testing, and police investigation are completed.

Teen Collapses After Vaccination Camp Visit

The teenager had visited a routine vaccination drive organised by the Nashik Municipal Corporation. According to officials, she was administered a tetanus and diphtheria booster dose at around 12.40 pm.

Soon after, she reportedly complained of dizziness and collapsed near a medical shop close to the vaccination camp. CCTV footage from the area reportedly showed the girl falling unconscious on the road.

Witnesses said she suffered a head injury after the fall. She was immediately taken to a district government hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.

Family Alleges Vaccine Link

The girl’s family has alleged that the death was linked to the vaccine and has demanded strict action against those responsible.

However, health authorities said the exact cause of death has not yet been established. Officials said all medical and forensic findings will be reviewed before reaching any conclusion.

Vaccine Batch Suspended As Precaution

Officials said the same vaccine vial had been used for six other beneficiaries at the camp, including four pregnant women, one 16-year-old girl, and one 10-year-old boy. None of them reported any adverse reaction.

As a precautionary step, the vaccine batch has been suspended, and samples have been sent for laboratory testing.

According to the municipal health department, 24 vials from the batch were received, of which 12 had been used so far. Each vial usually contains around 10 doses. Officials said approximately 120 vaccinations had been administered through the same centre without any reported adverse reactions.

Post-Mortem And Forensic Reports Awaited

A post-mortem examination is being conducted, and viscera samples have been preserved for forensic analysis. Police have registered an accidental death case at Ambad police station.

Officials said the final cause of death will be determined only after the post-mortem report, police panchnama, vaccine sample analysis, and viscera report are reviewed.

AEFI Committee Activated

An AEFI committee, which investigates adverse events following immunisation, has been activated to examine the case. A high-level meeting was also held at the health director’s office.

Officials said the report will be forwarded to Pune headquarters and later to the state government.

Officials Appeal Against Unverified Claims

Dr Vijay Devkar, Chief Medical and Health Officer of the Nashik Municipal Corporation, said Td vaccines protect against tetanus and diphtheria and are routinely administered to adolescents and pregnant women.

He said the vaccine is given in large numbers every year and appealed to the public and media not to circulate unverified claims until the official investigation is complete.

Officials also clarified that the Td vaccine is not linked to cancer prevention or any unrelated treatment, after some incorrect claims reportedly circulated online.

For now, authorities have maintained that the case remains under investigation and the vaccine batch suspension is a precautionary measure.
