Pulivendula Polls: TDP-Led Alliance Makes Major Gains
The TDP-led alliance has secured a significant breakthrough in Pulivendula, winning 64 of the constituency’s 65 Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituency seats without a contest.
The outcome marks a local electoral setback for YSR Congress Party president and former Andhra Pradesh chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. Pulivendula, which he represents in the Assembly, has long been closely associated with the YS family.
The unopposed victories emerged after the nomination withdrawal deadline on Tuesday. Candidates were declared elected where only one contestant remained.
MPTC Seats: Only One Contest Remains
Across the seven mandals within the Pulivendula Assembly constituency, the alliance secured all but one of the 65 MPTC seats. The remaining seat, Alireddypalle in Vempalli mandal, is scheduled to go to the polls on November 3. The scale of the uncontested victories gives the ruling alliance a substantial presence in these rural representative bodies before polling takes place.
These are unopposed election outcomes rather than victories based on counted votes. That distinction matters when assessing what the results reveal about voter preferences.
ZPTC Seats: Alliance Secures Three Without Polling
The alliance also won three of Pulivendula’s seven Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituency seats unopposed. Elections remain necessary for the other four segments.
The combination of MPTC and ZPTC gains extends the alliance’s reach across different levels of local representation. It also adds to the significance of the developments in a constituency central to Jagan’s political identity.
Political Impact: A Challenge for YSR Congress
For the TDP-led alliance, the results provide an organisational boost in an area where YSR Congress has traditionally held considerable influence. For Jagan’s party, they raise questions about candidate participation and its ability to sustain a competitive local presence.
However, uncontested local body outcomes alone cannot establish a constituency-wide shift in popular support. The remaining elections will provide a further measure of competition where voters have a choice between candidates. The immediate consequence is a stronger local position for the ruling alliance and a fresh political challenge for YSR Congress in Pulivendula.
