Viral Clip Sparks Political Clash
A brief interruption during Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s speech in Andhra Pradesh’s Madanapalle has triggered a political dispute between the Congress and the ruling alliance. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh portrayed the incident as public anger, while Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said the gathering was expressing enthusiasm.
The video comes from an October 2 programme marking the launch of the Global Horticulture Hub–Rayalaseema Rising project. It shows Sitharaman asking the audience to listen before Naidu intervenes to calm the crowd. She subsequently completed her speech. The audio in the circulated clip does not clearly establish why people were shouting. Claims that the interruption concerned employment therefore remain disputed.
Congress Claims Anger, Sitharaman Rejects Interpretation
Ramesh shared the footage on X after it circulated with claims that people were demanding jobs. He described the scene as evidence of public anger and pointed to Naidu’s intervention to support his interpretation.
Sitharaman rejected that account. She said TDP and Jana Sena Party workers wanted to interact with Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan. According to her explanation, the chief minister assured them that the leaders would meet them after the programme.
The exchange turned a short interruption into a wider argument over the context of the video. Congress framed it as dissatisfaction, while Sitharaman described it as supporters seeking access to their leaders.
Naidu and Lokesh Challenge Congress Account
Naidu said the crowd’s enthusiasm required him to intervene briefly so the programme could continue smoothly. In the video, he asks people to sit down, listen to the finance minister and reserve their slogans for after the event.
He also urges people standing on a railing to climb down. His remarks emphasise the programme’s importance for Rayalaseema farmers and the need to let Sitharaman finish her address.
Andhra Pradesh IT Minister Nara Lokesh accused Congress leaders of amplifying an unverified interpretation. He denied that local youths had interrupted the speech to demand jobs and alleged that the footage had been selectively clipped to create a misleading narrative. Andhra Pradesh BJP president PVN Madhav similarly disputed the protest claim, saying other footage showed people cheering for the leaders.
Horticulture Project Forms Backdrop to Dispute
The Madanapalle programme involved foundation-laying ceremonies for a proposed ₹1 lakh crore horticulture hub and the Indian School of Agriculture. The initiatives were presented as part of efforts to strengthen agriculture and investment in Rayalaseema.
The controversy has shifted attention from those proposals to competing political readings of the crowd’s reaction. Employment and regional development feature prominently in the debate, but the circulated clip alone does not establish the audience’s motives.
What the footage shows is a brief interruption, Naidu’s intervention and the resumption of Sitharaman’s speech. Whether the shouting represented anger over jobs or enthusiasm remains the central point of disagreement between Congress and the leaders present at the event.
