Fans of Tamil actor Ajith Kumar have announced the formation of a new political party named Tamilaga Makkal Kazhagam, adding another cinema-linked organisation to Tamil Nadu’s political landscape. The party was formally launched on Sunday at Ulundurpet in Kallakurichi district. Supporters marked the occasion by raising the new party’s flag and announcing its first group of office-bearers.
A person identified as Abith has been appointed the founding president of Tamilaga Makkal Kazhagam. Ramkumar will serve as the state secretary, while Mohammed Shah has been named the party’s treasurer. The announcement has attracted attention because Ajith Kumar has not declared any plan to enter politics. The actor has also not released an official statement supporting or distancing himself from the party formed by his fans.
Organisers have left the position of state general secretary vacant. They said the post would remain available for Ajith Kumar if he chooses to join active politics in the future. However, there is currently no indication that Ajith has approved the use of his name by the organisation or intends to accept a leadership position. Until the actor issues a formal statement, the initiative remains a political movement launched independently by sections of his fan base.
Ajith has generally maintained distance from organised fan-club politics. Any decision by him regarding the newly formed party would therefore carry considerable importance for its future direction and public credibility. The launch comes at a time when the relationship between Tamil cinema and politics is once again receiving attention. Actor Vijay’s political rise and his position as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister have encouraged discussions about whether other major film personalities could follow a similar path.
The development also follows a recent fan-organised blood donation programme attended by actor Dhanush. Addressing a large gathering of supporters, Dhanush urged them to look beyond conventional film celebrations and audio-launch events. He said the turnout demonstrated unity among his followers and encouraged them to channel that strength into meaningful activities. His remarks sparked speculation about possible political ambitions, but Dhanush has not announced a party or confirmed plans to enter politics.
Tamil cinema has historically maintained a strong connection with the state’s political movements. The launch of Tamilaga Makkal Kazhagam shows how fan associations can evolve into organised public platforms. Nevertheless, Ajith’s silence remains the most important factor. The party’s future and its ability to gain political relevance could depend heavily on whether the actor recognises the organisation or continues to stay away from active politics.
