Andhra Pradesh Police have directed officers to open rowdy sheets for 51 people accused in connection with the October 19, 2021 attack on the Telugu Desam Party’s central office in Mangalagiri. The instruction marks a new development in the investigation into an incident that remains a point of contention between the TDP and YSR Congress Party. A rowdy sheet is a police record; opening one does not establish that a person is guilty of the alleged attack.
According to a September 22 memo reported by Telugu360, station house officers at nine police stations under the NTR Police Commissionerate were instructed to open the sheets for accused persons living in their jurisdictions. Assistant commissioners were asked to monitor the process and report compliance. The memo cites the case registered at Mangalagiri Rural Police Station.
YSRCP leaders Talasila Raghuram, Devineni Avinash and Lella Appireddy are reportedly among those covered by the direction. The police action concerns their status as accused in the case; the allegations against them remain subject to legal proceedings.
The case stems from an attack on the TDP headquarters while the YSRCP was in power. According to the complaint, a group entered the office, damaged property and assaulted party workers and staff. Police later expanded the investigation, and the case was transferred to the Andhra Pradesh Crime Investigation Department. By October 2024, police had registered cases against 110 people in connection with the attack.
The latest order applies to 51 accused identified for rowdy sheets under the NTR Police Commissionerate. It is a separate step from deciding criminal responsibility for the 2021 incident. Further outcomes in the case will depend on the investigation and court proceedings, including how the allegations against each accused are assessed.
