Vijayasai Reddy Return to YSRCP? Jagan Faces Tough Call
Speculation over former Rajya Sabha MP V. Vijayasai Reddy’s political future has intensified amid reports suggesting that he may be exploring a return to the YSR Congress Party. However, there has been no official confirmation from either Vijayasai Reddy or YSRCP president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy about reconciliation talks.
Vijayasai Reddy was once among the most powerful figures in the YSRCP and maintained a close association with the Y.S. family for several decades. He served as the party’s national general secretary and represented Andhra Pradesh in the Rajya Sabha before resigning from the party and Parliament in January 2025. At the time, he said the decision was personal and maintained that he had not acted under pressure or for political benefit.
Vijayasai Reddy’s Political Re-entry
Although Vijayasai Reddy initially announced that he was stepping away from politics to focus on agriculture, he later indicated that he remained politically active and could return to public life. In April 2026, he confirmed plans to launch digital and television media platforms as part of a wider political re-entry.
His future course has remained the subject of speculation, including reports linking him with the Bharatiya Janata Party. However, no formal move to the BJP was announced. Reports analysing those possibilities described his next political step as uncertain rather than confirmed.
Jagan’s Trust Deficit Could Be a Barrier
A possible return to the YSRCP may be complicated by the sharp comments exchanged after Vijayasai Reddy’s departure. He publicly blamed a group of advisers surrounding Jagan for creating mistrust and weakening his position in the party. He also asked Jagan to withdraw remarks made against him after he was questioned by the Enforcement Directorate in an alleged liquor scam investigation. Vijayasai Reddy denied wrongdoing and said he had been unfairly targeted.
Those statements indicated that the differences were not limited to political strategy but involved personal trust and the party’s internal power structure. Jagan would therefore need to consider whether bringing back a former senior leader who publicly criticised his inner circle would strengthen the organisation or create fresh tensions.
YSRCP Return Could Offer Political Value
Despite the strained relationship, Vijayasai Reddy’s experience, organisational knowledge and contacts in Delhi could make him valuable to a party attempting to recover from its heavy defeat in the 2024 Andhra Pradesh Assembly election.
Jagan has been working to rebuild the YSRCP and reconnect with voters, including plans for an extended statewide padyatra beginning in 2027. An experienced strategist could potentially support that effort, although any role would likely depend on a clear understanding regarding authority, responsibilities and Jagan’s existing leadership team.
Reconciliation Remains Unconfirmed
For now, talk of Vijayasai Reddy returning to the YSRCP remains political speculation. A reunion would require both sides to move beyond their public criticism and rebuild the trust that once made Vijayasai Reddy one of Jagan’s closest political associates.
The final decision would rest with Jagan, while Vijayasai Reddy would also have to clarify whether he is seeking a formal party position, an advisory role or an independent political platform. Until either leader makes an announcement, reports of a comeback should be treated as unconfirmed.
