South CMs Share One Frame at Southern Zonal Council Meet

Mahabalipuram, Tamil Nadu: Southern state leaders came together for a striking group photograph during the 31st Southern Zonal Council meeting.

A rare political frame featuring some of South India’s most prominent leaders has grabbed attention following the 31st Southern Zonal Council meeting held near Chennai. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay, Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar and Kerala Chief Minister VD Satheesan were among the leaders who came together at the high-level gathering chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

The meeting was held in the Mahabalipuram-Kovalam area of Tamil Nadu on Thursday, August 20, bringing representatives of five southern states and the Union Territories of Puducherry, Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep onto one platform. Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka represented his state at the meeting.

South CMs Come Together In Rare Political Frame

The group photograph quickly became one of the most talked-about visuals from the council meeting. Naidu, Vijay, Shivakumar and Satheesan, who head four major southern states, were seen together alongside Amit Shah and other representatives.

The image stood out because the leaders come from different parties and often take contrasting political positions. The Southern Zonal Council, however, provides a common platform where states and the Centre can discuss regional problems and seek greater coordination on issues that cross state boundaries.

South CMs Raise Delimitation And Water Issues

Beyond the photo opportunity, the meeting featured discussions on several major issues affecting southern India. Delimitation and the future representation of southern states in Parliament emerged as important subjects, with Tamil Nadu and Karnataka raising concerns about protecting the political voice of states that have successfully controlled population growth.

Inter-state water disputes were another major focus. Karnataka raised the Mekedatu project, while Kerala discussed the Mullaperiyar issue. The leaders also addressed infrastructure, security, economic development and stronger cooperation between neighbouring states.

South CMs Meeting Sees Telangana Represented By Bhatti

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy was not part of the gathering. Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka attended the Southern Zonal Council meeting on behalf of Telangana, joining the chief ministers and senior officials from the other participating states.

The gathering therefore brought together virtually the entire top political leadership of southern India in one venue, making the group photograph particularly significant.

South CMs Photo Becomes Highlight Of Regional Meet

While the council dealt with serious matters ranging from delimitation and river-water sharing to infrastructure and regional security, the photograph of the southern leaders together became a memorable visual from the event. The rare frame reflected the political diversity of South India while also highlighting the purpose of the Southern Zonal Council: bringing different governments together to discuss shared challenges through dialogue and cooperative federalism.
