Falta Repoll 2026 Sees Tight CAPF Security After Poll Irregularity Claims
Fresh Voting In Falta
Falta Assembly repolling was held in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district after the Election Commission cancelled the earlier voting process over serious irregularity claims. Polling began at 7 am and continued till 6 pm across 285 polling stations, including auxiliary booths. More than 2.36 lakh voters were eligible to vote, including around 1.15 lakh women and nine third-gender voters. The counting of votes for the Falta repoll 2026 has been scheduled for May 24.
Security Tightened Across Booths
The EC ordered fresh voting after complaints of voter intimidation, alleged EVM tampering and manipulation of polling procedures during the April 29 vote. Officials also found claims of substances being used on EVM buttons and attempts to disturb web-camera footage. To prevent further trouble, 35 CAPF companies were deployed, with eight personnel stationed at every booth. The contest gained more attention after TMC candidate Jahangir Khan announced his withdrawal, though his name remained on the EVM as the formal deadline had already passed.
