Opposition Parties Criticise Vijay Government Over Astrologer Appointment
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay faced criticism from several political parties after appointing his personal astrologer, Radhan Pandit Vettrivel, to a key position in the Chief Minister’s Office. The issue quickly became a major talking point during discussions linked to the trust vote proceedings in the Tamil Nadu Assembly.
Leaders from multiple parties, including the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), questioned the appointment and argued that governance should prioritise scientific thinking over astrology-related decisions. The criticism added fresh political heat to Vijay’s first Assembly session as Chief Minister.
The controversy emerged shortly after the official announcement appointing Radhan Pandit Vettrivel as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to the Chief Minister. Political leaders from both ruling allies and opposition camps reacted strongly to the timing of the decision, which rapidly became a topic of debate inside and outside the Assembly.
The appointment has now triggered wider discussions in Tamil Nadu politics regarding the role of personal beliefs, astrology and scientific thinking in public administration. Political observers believe the issue could continue drawing attention in the coming days as parties intensify their reactions and debate the symbolism behind the move.
