Rebel MLAs Put Pressure On TMC Leadership

The rebellion gained strength after several MLAs reportedly skipped key party meetings and protests. The anger appears to be directed mainly at Abhishek Banerjee’s influence inside the party.

The developments have raised questions over whether Mamata Banerjee can still keep control of the party’s legislature unit while dealing with growing anger against Abhishek Banerjee’s role.

The row over the forged signature for the Leader of the Opposition post added more pressure on the party. Ritabrata Banerjee and other MLAs alleged that signatures were used without their approval. A CID probe has also been ordered.

Can Mamata Keep TMC United?

The TMC has dissolved committees in an attempt to rebuild its organisation. However, with councillor resignations, internal dissent, and rebel MLAs gaining recognition, Mamata Banerjee now faces a serious test: whether she can hold the party together after losing power for the first time since 2011.
