4-Year-Old Boy Falls Into 220-Foot Borewell In Haryana, Rescue Operation Underway

A four-year-old boy fell into a 220-foot-deep open borewell in Haryana’s Ambala district on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, triggering a major rescue operation involving the NDRF, SDRF, Army, and local administration.

The child, identified as Nirbhay, reportedly fell into the narrow borewell in Dhanaura village near Barara while he was with his father and grandfather in the family’s fields. Officials said the incident took place around 6.30 am.

Child Fell While Playing Near Borewell

According to the initial information, Nirbhay had accompanied his father, Manjit, to the fields where his grandfather was working. While the elders were busy with farm-related work, the child began playing near the borewell.

The borewell was said to be around nine inches wide. Officials believe the ground near the opening had become wet and slippery. The child reportedly leaned near the borewell and accidentally slipped into the deep shaft.

His father and grandfather rushed to the spot after hearing a sound and called out to him. Villagers also gathered and tried to help, but the narrow opening made immediate rescue efforts difficult.

NDRF, SDRF And Army Join Rescue Effort

Local authorities were alerted soon after the incident. Teams from the National Disaster Response Force, State Disaster Response Force, and district administration reached the village with rescue equipment.

The Army was also called in to support the operation. Senior district officials, including Deputy Commissioner Ajay Singh Tomar, reached the site to monitor the rescue work.

Officials said the narrow diameter of the borehole has made the operation highly challenging. Rescue teams are working carefully to reach the child safely.

Incident Raises Borewell Safety Concern

The incident has once again raised concern over open and unsecured borewells in rural areas. Such borewells can become extremely dangerous, especially for children playing nearby.

As the rescue operation continues, family members and villagers are waiting anxiously at the site and praying for the child’s safe recovery.

Authorities are expected to review safety measures around unused or open borewells after the incident.
