AIADMK NDA Alliance Future Uncertain Amid Tamil Nadu Govt Formation Talks

AIADMK’s NDA Future in Focus Amid Tamil Nadu Government Formation Talks

Tamil Nadu’s post-election political scene has turned increasingly dramatic, with intense discussions underway over government formation. Actor-turned-politician Vijay has led Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) to emerge as the single-largest party with 108 seats in the 234-member Assembly, putting the spotlight firmly on the race for majority support.

TVK currently has the backing of the Congress party’s five MLAs, taking its tally to 113—still short of the majority mark of 118. Speculation has grown over possible backchannel talks between the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), though DMK spokesperson TKS Elangovan dismissed any such alliance, reiterating that the two parties remain long-time rivals.

Amid the uncertainty, the AIADMK, led by former Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, is said to be reassessing its position within the NDA alliance. The developments have added another layer of intrigue, fuelling speculation about shifting political equations as parties explore options to reach the majority threshold.

Supporters of Vijay staged protests outside the Raj Bhavan, demanding that TVK be invited to form the government as the single-largest party. Congress and Left leaders also questioned the delay, arguing that the convention favours the largest party in a hung Assembly. However, Raj Bhavan sources maintained that no party has yet demonstrated the required numbers, stressing that any decision will be based strictly on constitutional norms and proven majority support.
