Indonesian immigration authorities have warned foreign tourists in Bali against carrying out unpaid promotional or work-related activities while staying on visitor visas. Officials said travellers must ensure their activities match the purpose of their visa and stay permit, as even unpaid collaborations may violate immigration rules if they provide economic value.

The clarification comes as Bali continues to attract strong international arrivals, with more than 7 million foreign visitors recorded annually. Authorities are now increasing checks on tourists whose activities appear linked to business, promotion, or professional services.

Influencers And Creators Under Watch

The warning is expected to affect influencers, photographers, DJs, yoga instructors, wellness practitioners, makeup artists, and content creators visiting Bali for collaborations, retreats, or portfolio-based projects.

Immigration officials said unpaid work is not always automatically allowed under tourist or socio-cultural visas. Activities such as endorsements, commercial promotions, photography services, makeup work, business-related social media content, and project-based collaborations may face scrutiny.

Travellers Advised To Use Correct Visa

Authorities said foreign nationals must use the correct visa for their planned activities. Even without direct payment, work that creates promotional value, portfolio benefit, or business exposure may be treated as economic activity.

Travellers planning professional collaborations in Bali may need business visas, work permits, volunteer visas, investment visas, or artist and performer visas. Those violating visa rules could face sanctions under Indonesian immigration regulations.
