Around 10:30 PM, nine family members had gathered for dinner and consumed biryani together. After the relatives left, four members of the family reportedly ate watermelon between 1:00 AM and 1:30 AM.

By the early hours of April 26, between 5:30 AM and 6:00 AM, all four began experiencing severe health issues, including vomiting and loose motions. They were initially treated by a local doctor before being shifted to Sir J. J. Hospital for advanced treatment. Despite medical efforts, the situation worsened rapidly. The mother and elder daughter also lost their lives during treatment. The victims have been identified as Abdullah Dokadia (40), Nasreen Dokadia (35), and their daughters Aisha (16) and Zainab (13).An Accidental Death (AD) case has been registered at JJ Marg Police Station. While post-mortem examinations have been completed, officials clarified that the final cause of death will be confirmed only after histopathological reports are received.

Initial reports point towards possible food contamination, but authorities have not yet established whether the biryani, watermelon, or any other factor was responsible. The investigation remains ongoing.

In a separate but similar incident, a seven-year-old child died and 18 others were hospitalised in Jharkhand’s Giridih district after allegedly consuming contaminated street food such as golgappa and chaat, raising further concerns about food safety.
