Lufthansa 787 Nose Gear Collapse At Frankfurt Airport Injures Staff Before LA Flight
A Lufthansa Boeing 787 nose gear collapsed at Frankfurt Airport before boarding, injuring staff and cancelling its Los Angeles-bound flight.
A Lufthansa Boeing 787 aircraft suffered a nose gear collapse while parked at a gate at Frankfurt Airport, leaving several staff members injured. The aircraft was being prepared for its scheduled long-haul flight to Los Angeles, but passengers had not yet boarded when the incident took place.
Staff Injured During Ground Operations
The aircraft was scheduled to operate as flight LH450 from Frankfurt to Los Angeles. According to the report, crew members and ground staff were on board when the front landing gear unexpectedly collapsed.
Several staff members were injured and later received medical treatment. Emergency vehicles were also seen around the wide-body aircraft after the incident.
Flight To Los Angeles Cancelled
The incident happened before passenger boarding, which helped avoid a bigger safety concern for travellers. However, the collapse forced Lufthansa to cancel the scheduled flight to Los Angeles.
The nose gear is the front landing wheel assembly of an aircraft. It supports the front weight of the plane, helps with steering on the ground, and absorbs shock during movement.
Lufthansa Begins Investigation
Lufthansa said it is working with the relevant authorities to investigate the exact cause of the incident. The aircraft involved was a Boeing 787-9, a newer addition to Lufthansa’s fleet.
While no passengers were injured, the incident has drawn attention to aircraft ground safety and pre-flight checks at major international airports.
