Satwik-Chirag Retire From Indonesia Open After Shoulder Injury Scare
Satwik-Chirag’s Indonesia Open campaign ended early after Satwik suffered a shoulder injury just days after their Singapore Open title win.
Injury Scare In Jakarta
India’s star men’s doubles pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty faced a sudden setback at the Indonesia Open 2026 after retiring midway through their first-round match in Jakarta.
The World No. 4 pair were trailing Malaysia’s Kang Khai Xing and Aaron Tai 6-11 when Satwik stopped play and pointed to his right shoulder. The injury forced the Indian duo to withdraw from the Super 1000 tournament, turning a strong week into a worrying moment for fans.
Recovery Now Becomes Key
The injury came just two days after Satwik and Chirag won the Singapore Open, ending a long title wait of nearly two years. Their final was a tough three-game battle, and the quick travel to another major event showed how demanding the badminton calendar can be.
The Badminton Association of India said the pair will now focus on recovery and rehabilitation before important tournaments ahead. With the World Championships in Delhi in August and the Asian Games also in focus, Satwik’s fitness will be crucial for India’s medal hopes.
Meanwhile, India had some good news in mixed doubles as Rohan Kapoor and Shivani Ruthvika Gadde stunned a higher-ranked Chinese Taipei pair to reach the second round.
