Accident Cover For Students
Kannur University has launched an accident insurance cover for students, offering financial protection to those enrolled from 2025 onwards. A total of 17,343 students from Kannur, Kasaragod and Wayanad districts will come under the scheme. The move is aimed at supporting students and their families in case of unexpected accidents during their academic period.
Scheme To Strengthen Student Safety
The insurance cover is expected to provide relief in cases linked to accidental death, disability or related emergencies, depending on the policy terms. Earlier university documents show that Kannur University had invited insurance providers for a Group Personal Accident Policy for regular students, with the objective of giving financial protection against unforeseen accidents leading to death or disability. The proposal also mentioned coverage for accidents caused by animal or insect bites and protection valid round the clock.
Relief For Families Across Three Districts
The scheme is important because Kannur University serves students across North Kerala, including Kannur, Kasaragod and Wayanad. For many families, sudden accident-related expenses can become a major burden. By introducing accident insurance, the university is adding an extra layer of safety for students while they continue their studies.
Important Step In Higher Education
Student welfare measures like insurance coverage are becoming more relevant in higher education. Kannur University’s initiative can help improve confidence among students and parents, especially those from rural and semi-urban areas. The final benefits, claim process and coverage limits should be checked through the university’s official notification or student services office before making any claim.
