Bengaluru Transport Operators Worry Over WFH Impact
Bengaluru’s employee transport operators have raised concern over the growing discussion around work-from-home policies, warning that any major increase in remote work could affect thousands of livelihoods connected to the sector. The Karnataka State Travel Operators’ Association said the employee transport industry continues to support lakhs of jobs across India and plays a key role in serving IT companies, corporate offices and industrial workplaces.
The association said drivers, vehicle owners, fleet operators, transport coordinators, maintenance workers and support staff depend heavily on daily office travel demand. In a city like Bengaluru, where the IT and corporate workforce depends on organised cab and bus services, reduced office attendance could directly weaken the income chain of the transport sector.
KSTOA Urges Centre To Protect Jobs
KSTOA has urged the Centre to consider protective measures for travel operators while discussing or supporting flexible work policies. Operators fear that if more companies shift employees to work-from-home, demand for employee cab services may fall sharply, creating financial stress for many families.
The association said corporate transport is not just a convenience for companies but a major employment network linked to India’s IT and industrial growth. Travel operators want the government to balance workplace flexibility with livelihood protection so that Bengaluru’s corporate cab operators and employee transport workers are not left without support.
