The NTR Trust, led by Managing Trustee Nara Bhuvaneshwari, has announced the Thalassemia Run to raise awareness about the disease and support children affected by it. The event, scheduled for May 10 in Hyderabad, aims to educate the public about thalassemia, a genetic disorder that requires regular blood transfusions for patients. Bhuvaneshwari, accompanied by Indian cricket star Mithali Raj, who is also the brand ambassador for the run, shared her personal connection to the cause. She spoke about the emotional toll thalassemia takes on families and emphasized the importance of awareness, especially for young couples before marriage, encouraging them to get tested for the disease.
The press conference revealed the NTR Trust’s commitment to providing support to thalassemia patients. They have already set up a Thalassemia Care Center at the NTR Memorial Trust, where they have provided free blood transfusions for 259 children so far. Nara Bhuvaneshwari expressed her gratitude to the donors, volunteers, and the public for their support, highlighting how vital it is for everyone to unite in fighting this disease. She also announced that the Trust would soon be opening a blood bank and a Thalassemia Care Center in Vijayawada to extend their efforts further.
Mithali Raj spoke about her emotional experience meeting children suffering from thalassemia and their families. She urged people to support the cause and increase awareness about this genetic disorder. Raj emphasized the role of social media and influencers in spreading the right information about thalassemia and the importance of proper counseling and education. The event is set to include 3K, 5K, and 10K runs at Jalavihar in Hyderabad, where the public, including volunteers, will come together to raise awareness and contribute to the fight against thalassemia.
